A Royal Decree was issued to establish Al al-Bayt University on the 18th of Safar 1413 AH, corresponding to August 7, 1992, to serve as a beacon of knowledge in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The University commenced its first academic year in 1994/1995.

The Department of Mathematics was established in 1994 alongside the Department of Computer Science as part of the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, and Education, offering both bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. In 1995, an official decision was issued to separate the department from the Department of Computer Science and establish it as an independent academic unit.

The department offers courses to students from the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Information Technology and Computer Science, the Faculty of Engineering, as well as students enrolled in the parallel program.

The department prepares qualified national and regional professionals specialized in mathematics to meet the needs of society in many fields, particularly education. It continuously updates and develops its academic plans and curricula to ensure the graduation of well-prepared students who maintain a strong academic reputation at both the local and regional levels.

The Department Council includes 20 dedicated faculty members holding doctoral degrees in mathematics and statistics, representing various academic ranks and areas of specialization.

The department also maintains close and continuous communication with its students by actively supporting regular office hours. Faculty members keep their doors open to provide academic guidance and support, and this connection often continues even after graduation. Graduates typically secure appropriate employment opportunities and begin serving their communities immediately upon completing their degrees, while others pursue master’s and doctoral studies and achieve notable academic distinction.
