About the Department
The Department of Chemistry at Al al-Bayt University was established in 1994, coinciding with the foundation of the University, as one of the academic departments dedicated to preparing qualified professionals, advancing scientific research, and serving the community. Since its establishment, the Department has witnessed continuous development in its academic programs, infrastructure, and teaching and research laboratories, providing a stimulating educational and research environment that promotes creativity and innovation.
The Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, requiring the successful completion of 132 credit hours, as well as a research-based Master of Science program (thesis track). Its academic programs cover the major disciplines of chemistry, including Analytical, Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry, together with their modern and interdisciplinary applications. These programs aim to equip students with comprehensive scientific knowledge, practical and analytical skills, critical thinking abilities, and problem-solving competencies, while promoting proficiency in modern scientific instruments and analytical techniques.
The Department places particular emphasis on strengthening the connection between academic knowledge and industrial and technological applications, recognizing the essential role of chemistry in industrial development, product quality improvement, and the optimization of manufacturing processes. The Department strives to prepare graduates capable of contributing effectively to a wide range of industrial sectors, including pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, food processing, fertilizers, detergents, paints and coatings, polymers, construction materials, energy, water treatment, and environmental technologies.
Furthermore, the Department emphasizes the importance of chemistry in quality control and quality assurance, chemical analysis, product development, industrial research and development, chemical safety assessment, and environmental monitoring and remediation. These areas enhance graduates' ability to respond to evolving labor market demands and rapid scientific and technological advancements.
In alignment with global priorities for sustainable development and the transition toward a green economy, the Department seeks to promote scientific research in green chemistry, advanced materials, modern analytical technologies, natural resource management, water treatment, pollution prevention, and the development of innovative scientific solutions to environmental and industrial challenges.
The Department is committed to strengthening collaboration with academic and research institutions and industrial sectors at the national and international levels. It encourages applied research and collaborative projects that contribute to knowledge and technology transfer, while connecting scientific research outcomes with the needs of industry and society.
The Department also seeks to prepare its graduates for postgraduate studies and professional careers in research and industrial laboratories, quality assurance and regulatory institutions, education, healthcare, and environmental organizations, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to economic and social development at both national and international levels.
