The establishment of the Religious Studies program at Al al-Bayt University, starting in the 2024/2025 academic year within the Faculty of Sharia, comes at a time when the region is in dire need of a pioneering and innovative specialization with such academic and scholarly characteristics in religious studies. This marks a significant step in introducing such a program at the national and regional levels, offering religious studies in a manner that resonates with our social environment, civilization, language, societal components, culture, customs, and traditions. Our land has always been, and remains, the land of prophets and messengers, the cradle of religions, and home to holy sites and religious symbols.
The Religious Studies program is unique in its comprehensive curriculum, encompassing all aspects of religious sciences and knowledge. This makes it a global program that serves the issues of religions, highlighting their civilizational values and their engagement with global challenges. It attracts Jordanian, Arab, and international students from around the world who aspire to learn about comparative religion and its intellectual, cultural, and civilizational dimensions.
This program opens up broad horizons for its students in the local, regional, and global job markets, including religious centers, religious tourism, religious media, and ministries of culture and youth, thanks to the specialized knowledge and skills they acquire that contribute to building a safe religious culture for societies.
Allah Almighty says:
“Indeed, those who have believed, and those who were Jews, Christians, or Sabians—whoever believed in Allah and the Last Day and did righteousness will have their reward with their Lord. There will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.”
(Qur'an, Al-Baqarah: 62)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“The scholars are the heirs of the prophets. The prophets did not leave behind dinars or dirhams; rather, they left knowledge. Whoever acquires it has acquired a great share.”
With the warmest expressions of welcome, encouragement, and hope for a bright future, the Department of Religious Studies welcomes its students with enthusiasm and eagerness to study the field of Religious Studies and to develop specialized academic and intellectual knowledge of religions, including their origins, development, beliefs and concepts, scriptures, prophets, followers, relationships with others, cultural formation, social, family, economic, and psychological dimensions, holy sites, and religious symbols.
The Department of Religious Studies is committed to providing a safe, balanced, and academically sound environment for the study of religious knowledge and traditions, free from extremism, fanaticism, and rigid interpretations, and guided by the principles of moderation and balance. This commitment is reflected in the program's curriculum, which is founded on objective academic and scholarly principles. It addresses the areas of commonality and positive interaction among religions and their followers while recognizing and respecting the genuine differences and distinctions between religious traditions.
The program seeks to develop students' awareness, understanding, and ability to engage with religious issues through modern teaching and learning methods. It also promotes scientific inquiry, academic research, critical understanding, and knowledge acquisition, while emphasizing the role of religious and ethical values in promoting human dignity, social security, peaceful coexistence, and constructive dialogue.
To strengthen confidence in the academic program, the Faculty of Sharia at Al al-Bayt University seeks to establish academic partnerships with local, regional, and international universities and institutions, with the aim of internationalizing the program and benefiting from specialized expertise in Religious Studies through modern educational technologies.
With sincere words of welcome, peace, and encouragement, we welcome you to the Department of Religious Studies and pray to Allah Almighty for your success, guidance, and continued excellence.
