About the Program
The Department of Biological Sciences is one of the main departments in the Faculty of Science and was established in the academic year 1994/1995 when the Faculty of Science was founded. The Department of Biological Sciences covers all fields included in the biological sciences, such as ecology, botany, zoology, biochemistry and molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, and biotechnology. Additionally, undergraduate students are required to take some compulsory courses from the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. The Department of Biological Sciences grants bachelor's and master's degrees, and the department has graduated hundreds of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The bachelor's program aims to develop highly competent professionals specialized in the field of biological sciences, who are also capable of contributing to the application and dissemination of knowledge in biological sciences. It has the ability to engage in continuous professional development and achieve developmental job objectives. It also aims to train students on the optimal use of the technologies and tools available in the department and on continuous self-learning after university. It also aims to connect the university with the medical and industrial sectors.
As for the master's program, it includes the thesis option and the coursework option. Where sufficient flexibility has been taken into account in this program so that students from the Department of Medical Sciences, Medical Analysis, Public Health, and Agriculture can join this program.
This program aims to encourage basic and applied research in the field of biological sciences, focusing on research that contributes to national development. It also aims to equip and qualify master's students with knowledge, skills, and behaviors that enable them to excel in postgraduate studies and scientific research, fostering a spirit of independence and initiative, and instilling a culture of quality, development, and continuous excellence toward improvement.
