About the Program
The Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics program at Al al-Bayt University was accredited by the Higher Education Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for the 2023/2024 academic year under the supervision of the Faculty of Sciences/Department of Life Sciences, before joining the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences in 2024.
The B.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics is a specialized academic program that aims to prepare scientifically and professionally qualified specialists in medical nutrition therapy, capable of providing evidence-based nutrition care for both healthy individuals and patients. The program focuses on equipping students with a solid foundation in nutrition science, biochemistry, and human physiology, and on linking theoretical knowledge with practical application in nutritional assessment, the development of therapeutic nutrition plans, and monitoring their outcomes—thereby contributing to the prevention and management of chronic diseases and improving quality of life. It also develops students’ skills in nutrition counseling and education, effective communication with patients and their families, and working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams, while strengthening professional ethics and ensuring the safety and quality of nutrition services.
The program includes courses covering nutrition across the life span and therapeutic nutrition for conditions such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular and kidney diseases, and gastrointestinal disorders, in addition to nutritional assessment, dietary data collection methods, anthropometric measurements, and relevant laboratory tests. It also addresses topics related to public health, community nutrition, food safety, and food service management, while developing students’ research skills and their ability to read, analyze, and apply evidence-based practices. The program further strengthens practical training through clinical and field placements in hospitals and healthcare centers, enhancing graduates’ readiness to enter the labor market with competence and professionalism. The program offers graduates a wide range of career opportunities, most notably working as clinical dietitians in hospitals and clinics, working in diabetes and obesity centers as well as nutrition and fitness centers, and contributing to public health and nutrition education programs in schools and institutions. Graduates may also work in food factories and companies in areas such as nutrition, quality assurance, and food labeling, in addition to opportunities in scientific research and related health projects.
